Kirsten Mulcahy - Soprano
Kirsten is a classically trained soprano from Falmouth, Cornwall, currently studying for a BA in Music at Bath Spa University. She started performing at the age of 11 in school productions and local musical theatre companies: her principal roles included Maria in West Side Story, the Whale in Ocean World and most recently Diana in the university production of Orpheus in the Underworld. In 2010 she won the Most Promising Young Musician award at Camborne Music Festival and went on to be awarded Best Young Singer at the County Music Festival in 2013. Throughout her secondary education Kirsten sang with Cornwall Youth Choir run by Truro Cathedral’s Director of Music, Christopher Gray. Before coming to university, Kirsten spent a year with Cornish Opera company Duchy Opera, under the guidance of Musical Director Paul Drayton, taking part in their production of Carmen and their touring show Baron Hertzog’s Box of Operatic Delights in which solo roles included Adina’s Cavatina from L’Elisir D’amore.
Kirsten takes every opportunity to perform in her home county, regularly appearing as guest soloist with Cornish Male Voice Choirs including City of Truro MC, Treverva MVC and Nankersey MVC, performing a variety of genres from big band jazz to sacred classical. Kirsten is currently a member of several ensembles at university including The Accidentals and Bath Spa Madrigals Choir.
